Van Rompuy: ‘The EU will never become the United States of Europe’
Each country has its own history, some have a history of 200 years, like Belgium and some have a history of a thousand years.
So we are not like an American State. We have our own languages, we have 23 languages in Europe.
We have a special identity in each of our member states and a very specific situation due to our history but what we have to do is to create every time we can, and a crisis period is a very fruitful period for this.
Unfortunately, we have to create more Europe, more European integration.”

Tolerance.ro: Republic of Moldova calls for replacing the Russia-led peacekeeping force in its breakaway transnistrian region by an international civilian mission
A Russian military man of the „peacekeeping” forces serving in the security zone of Moldova’s separatist transnistrian region shot dead with a kalasnikov a local driving a car in the morning of January 1 for not stoping his car at a checkpoint on the bridge over the Dniester, Tolerance.ro reports. The Russian ambasador in Chisinau, Valeri Kuzmin, declared that the „peacemaker” had to shoot the 18-year-old boy since his car was stollen, and he did not have a driving licence. The interior minister in Chisinau confirmed that the declarations of the Russian ambasador are NOT true.
Meanwhile, local residents organised a protest against Russian peacekeepers in the region. The protest was organised by the fellow villagers of the killed man. They gathered in front of the checkpoint and said they would protest until “the peacekeepers posts in the conflict security zone are removed”.
“The Russian peacekeeper should not have fired at the young man because he posed no threat to the people around,” Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov said.
Moldovan officials consider that the Russian peacekeepers stationed at a checkpoint in a separatist region where an 18-year-old man was fatally shot have no reason to carry guns.
Also, the oficials in Chisinau asks the international community to support in convincing Russia to withdow the military forces and replace them with a civilian international mission.

King Mihai I of Romania blames Winston Churchill: „I cannot ever forgive Churchill, who threw us to the Russians”
Neither Hitler nor Mussolini ever imagined that a young, inexperienced monarch could change the course of the Second World War with a coup. Or at least to shorten the carnage by six months, writes the Spaanish newpaper El Pais after visiting King Mihai (Michael) of Romania in his home in Switzerland. “Officially, what I did was get Romania out of the war, in hope of avoiding bloodshed. Although I knew that the Germans would never accept that. In fact, they didn’t, as they bombed us the same day,” the king says.
But during the long years in exile, Mihai was always bothered by what he deems as treason of the West and especially of British leader Winston Churchill. “Romania and all countries east of Germany were abandoned at Yalta,” he said, recalling the February 1945 conference when Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill re-divided Europe.
“I can of course understand why Churchill thought this was the only possible strategy, from the British

Everything about Transnistria OR is Transnistria a Russian or Romanian Land?
Transnistria is geographically delimited by the 800 km bank of Nistru (Dniester), the 600 km bank of Bug and the 150 km seaside of Back Sea. The region is also known in English as “Trans-Dniestr” or “Transdniestria”. Etymologically, these names are adaptations of the Romanian name of the region, "Transnistria" meaning "beyond the river Nistru".
Antiquity and Middle AgesThe area where Transnistria is now located has been inhabited by Indo-European tribes for millennia, being a borderland between Dacia and Scythia . The Tyragetae (Tyragetae meaning the Getae -or Dacians- from the Tyras -or Nistru-) inhabited the area around the Nistru river (called "Tyras" in ancient documents), as well as the Scythians.
The mix of Romans and Dacians (Getae) after the Roman conquest of Dacia made a Romanized population that evolved into the Romanian nation. The Romaninas lived in the Medieval Eve in mainly 3 Romanian countries: Wallachia, Moldova and Transilvania until they all united to form what is now Romania. So, the Vlachs (Volohs, Vlasi, Vlachians etc) Moldovans and Transilvanians they were all the same nation, Romanians, speaking the same language, Romanian.
After the Roman conquest of Dacia (101-102, 105-106), the Daco-Romanized population that later formed the Romanian Nation inhabited those lands.
Early Germanic and Mongolic tribes were present in the area during their invasions of the Roman Empire.
The beginnings of the Eastern branch of Romanians can be found in the symbiosis of the Tyragetae, so the subjects of Dacian king Burebista (82 -44 BC) that at Bug mouths was ruling Olbia and the Romans whose presence can be recognized every step.
For ages between Romanians (Moldovans, Volohs etc), and Ruthenians or Ukrainians a complex ethnographic and demographic mixing process evolved.
Even from the beginning of the II-nd millennium those Romanization was very powerful, Scandinavian sources signalling the presence of the “blakumenilor” between Nistru and Bug and an old Russian chronic speak about the same ,,volohove” in the area.

The infringement of the pilgrims rights to liberty of expression, the minority liberties and journalists rights in Ukraine were denounced by the Romanian Social-Democrat MEP Corina Cretu at the European Commission
Romanian Social-Democrat MEP Corina Cretu denounced Ukraine at the European Commission for the “abuses” committed at a border crossing point and for its failure to respect the rights of its minorities. The Romanian MEP criticized the Ukrainian authorities’ failure to respect international standards that concern the rights of national minorities. Romanian Youth Voice confirms that two motor coaches and a mini-bus with more than 100 Romanian and Moldovan pilgrims went to Camasovca (Hagi Curda), a majority Romanian locality, today on Ukrainian territory, where the dedication of the Romanian Orthodox Church restored after it was destroyed by Soviets was about to take place.
The coaches were held up for several hours at the Reni customs house on the border between Moldova and Ukraine. Two Romanian journalists were considered personas non-grata and were not allowed to enter Ukraine.
Also Ukrainian authorities deployed significant militia to “ensure the safety” of the church dedication which the pilgrims say it was meant to threaten them…

www.romania-actualitati.ro: László Borbély suspected of ‘influence peddling’
The prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate state that the Minister of Environment, László Borbély, is involved in the preferential granting of some projects to a specific company. In exchange for the contracts, the owner of the company in question has renovated an apartment with the sum of 20 000 euros, the beneficiary being László Borbély himself.
The Minister of Environment, László Borbély, does not comment upon the alleged involvement in an influence peddling case, an official of the Ministry of Environment and Forests declared for Radio Romania Actualităţi.
The Minister is presently abroad and, until his return from Poland, where he is partaking in the Environment Informal Council of the European Union, the press bureau of the institution has nothing to declare.
The anticorruption prosecutors from Oradea have already commenced the criminal investigation in this file against Ioan Ciocan from Negreşti, Oaş, who is the sole associate of the company which benefits from the projects, as well as against László Borbély’s personal advisor, Szepessy Szabolcs, who has supposedly acted as an intermediary between the businessman and the Minister, according to the data communicated by NAD.
According to the institution, Ioan Ciocan has improved an apartment of the Minister with a sum of 20.000 Euros from the company’s money.
