First Romanian elected to Canadian Parliament

Corneliu Chisu is the only Romanian MP in Canada, representing the Conservative Party. Chisu left Romania in 1976. After leaving the country, Chisu initially set up home in Italy , where he married a general’s daughter.

“Things are on their way to very good indeed. Romania has had an exponential development,” he argued, in an interview to “Jurnalul National”. He went on to explain that, in the Canadian electoral system, some people make donations because they have faith in the party in question, but do not ask for something else in return, subsequently.
