PL says there are more than one suitable presidential candidates

Composer Eugen Doga, the president of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase and Moldova’s Ambassador to the U.S. Igor Munteanu are some of the personalities that the Liberal Party (PL) considers as suitable candidates for the presidency. Related statements were made by the party’s first deputy chairman, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca in a program on the public TV channel Moldova 1 on Monday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports. He denied that they earlier discussed the candidacy of politician Vasile Nedelciuc, as the press reported.

Dorin Chirtoaca reiterated that an apolitical head of state cannot exist as the President occupies one of the three most important posts in the state. “The Head of Parliament, the Prime Minister and the President of the country are the first three persons focusing on politics in Moldova. The President has powers related to the foreign policy. How can an apolitical head of state deal with the foreign policy? The President represents the state. He is not elected to sit on a chair and sign documents,” he stated.
