Chisinau – The new year brought the expected pro-European Aliance (Liberal Democratic Party - LDP, the Democratic Party - DP, and the Liberal Party - LP).
The Aliance has 59 votes from 101 and need 51 for the election of the president of the Parliement and the Governmet while for the president of the republic the aliance need 61 votes. That means the alliance needs two more votes (from Communists).
Marian Lupu president of the Democratic Party also negotiated with the communists to have a pro-Russian alliance and wanted insurances that he will get the president possition.
However, after those insurances being made, he chose the pro-European Aliance.
The three main positions in the state are devided between the three leaders of the parties.

Democratic Party - Marian Lupu, president of the republic
Liberal Party – Mihai Ghimpu, president of the Parliement
However, becouse the elections for the president of the country may be controversial and the pro-European Aliance need another two wotes for the president of the republic from the Comunists, in order to get Marian Lupu in the Aliance and renounce of his negotiations with the communists, the liberals agreed to make a compromise.
Thus, Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Liberal Party agreed to let temorarily the position of president of the Parliement to Mr. Lupu (that becomes actually interim president of the couontry) until Mr. Lupu will be votet as president of the republic.
Thus, Marian Lupu, head of the DP, has been voted in as speaker of parliament and will serve as interim president.
The designated premier of the Republic of Moldova, Vlad Filat stated in an interview offered to Radio Free Europe that he will make the new government by January 14.
According to Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Liberal Party, the new Alliance has as priority the continuation of democratic reforms and preparations for European integration.
