Romanian Foreign Minister Theodor Baconschi asks Ukrainian FM for measures meant to avoid further incidents with Romanian minority in Ukraine

During a bilateral meeting in Brussels, Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi asked his Ukrainian counterpart Konstantin Grishchenko to identify the measures needed in order to avoid situations similar to the incident that took place on Saturday, July 16, at the border between the two countries.

Two motor coaches and a mini-bus with more than 100 Romanian and Moldovan pilgrims went to Camasovca (Hagi Curda), a majoritary Romanian locality, today on Ukrainian territory, where the dedication of the Romanian Orthodox Church restored after it was destroyed by Soviets was about to take place.

The coaches were held up for several hours at the Reni customs house on the border between Moldova and Ukraine. Two Romanian journalists were considered personas non-grata and were not allowed to enter Ukraine.

The Romanian Foreign Minister that took part at the meeting of the Friends of Ukraine Group in Brussels asked his Ukrainian counterpart for the identification of measures needed in order to boost bilateral confidence and to avoid situations such as the one that took place on Saturday, July 16, when journalists, students and NGO representatives travelled to the Odessa region (Southern Basarabia - Bugeac) to attend the dedication of a church.
