Russia makes post-electoral experiments in Moldova. How? Think about the Gas war, the wine war and the Russian occupation army from the Transnistria Region!
The chief of the presidential administration of Medvedev showed up in Chisinau last week, after the parliementary elections from Chisinau in an atempt to create a pro-russian government having the communists as the leding party in a coalition.
The backmail tactic used all the time by the Putin-Medvedev administration to keep under control the exSoviet republics consisted now on two strategies:
1. promises
-that the price of the gass suplied to the Republic of Moldova will be cheaper
-the imports of wine will not be stoped any more
2. theats
-that the russian occupation army form the Transnistria region of the Republic of Moldova will not be removed.
The civil society form Chisinau has made last days protests against the posibility that putin-medvedev plan will win and the Republic of Moldova will return to the comunist dictatorship between 2001-2009.
After the parliemntary elections from Republic of Moldova on 28 November the Alliance for European Integration got 59 seats in the Parliament and the Communists 44 seats. The Communist Party has gained 39.29% of the votes (42 seats), Liberal Democrat Party 29.38% of the votes (32 seats), Democrat Party 12.72% of the votes (15 seats) and the Liberal Party 9.96% of the votes (12 seats).
However the Russian pressure aims to break the Alliance for European Integration that has governed in the last year and oriented the Republic of Moldova towards the European integration.
The Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt has told EUobserver that the prospect of an EU free trade pact is better for the future of Moldova than cheap Russian gas: "We did not offer any gas, Sweden is very bad at that […] I'm not saying that cheap gas is bad, but economies and prosperity can't be built on cheap gas."
Thus, the Republic of Moldova continues to be the battle between the EU (the prospect of free trade and free movement) and putin-medvedev Russia (the Gas war, the wine war and the Russian occupation army from the Transnistria Region)…
