USL presents programme, proposes three levels for income tax

It would maintain VAT at 24 pc for four years. The provisions were included in the Union’s economic plan, presented at the end of last week. The Democrat-Liberals criticize USL’s proposals, dismissing them as “superficial and insufficiently motivated.”

Titled “A stimulating, fair and predictable tax system”, the Social Liberal Union (USL)’s economic program proposes a differentiated income tax, ranging from 8 pc, for monthly incomes under RON 800, and 12 pc, for incomes between RON 800 and 1,600, to 16 pc, for incomes over RON 1,600. As regards VAT, USL proposes for it to be maintained at 24 pc for another four years, except for taxes on the production of grain, bread, fresh meat, milk and fresh vegetables, where producers will be granted a 15 pc-deduction out of 24 pc, representatives of the Union argued. At the same time, the program stipulates the negotiation of a new agreement with the IMF, in 2013.
